ADVOCATES DARE PEACEFUL ELECTION IN
LANAO TO PREVAIL
April 23 Election Covenant Signing in
Lanao del Sur
NAMFREL executive assigned in a quick
count transmission from Lanao del Sur in the 2004 and 2007 national elections
join local peace group in setting a model municipality for the 2013
elections.
Salman Ranaw, CEO at the Media Resource
Center in Marawi City dares Covenant convenors to roll down the mechanism of
peace that begins with the prevention of "vote-buying " using media
exposure.
With the systematic role of key agencies
and stakeholders in the portrayal of positive values and strict enforcement of
the law, candidates and interest parties will be compelled to divert resources
in fair and legal campaigning and thus reducing the cause of violence.
A covenant signing on April 23 in the
Municipal hall of Balindong this province will signify strong adherence of stakeholders
to the cause.
Proponent, the Bolayoka, Inc., is in a
project partnership with the Asia
Foundation for a campaign that call as PREVAILS, an accronym for “Preventing Reoccurrences
of Election Violence thru Alliance Initiatives in Lanao del Sur.”
Joining the Covenant are COMELEC, The
Asia Foundation, MILF, 103 Harribon Brigade of the AFP, 51st InfanfryBattalion,
PNP-Provincial Office, Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities
(CCCH), International Monitoring Team, Non-Violent Peace Force, Election
Observers, Media, and Ranao Coalition for Synergetic Reform.
All candidates from the host
municipality are signatories to the covenant.
